portland design inspiration

As I've been anticipating moving into our new home, I'm constantly on pinterest & houzz looking and looking and looking for inspration and ideas for decor, furniture, colors and more. While on Houzz I stumbled across some work of Garrison Hullinger Interior Design, a Portland-based interior design firm. I love looking at Portland design because the color palate, home structure and taste are usually more in line with what I'm drawn to. Take a look at their website, houzz page and blog - what do you see that inspires you? Here are a few that are inspiring me:

1// beautiful Benjamin Moore gray walls from Alameda Ridge 2// beautiful reclaimed wood piece from Danish Luxe Revival  3// incredible old vanity with a modern feel for a mixed look done well from Camellia Court

psalm 62

this is a re-run from a previous guest post I did for Jen but my life has been super crazy busy lately so I felt like I needed to read it again.. and maybe you do too!

I am a do-er, a go-getter, a must finish everything on the to-do lister,  a feels guilty when I sit downer. While these can be good qualities, sometimes I am busy to a fault. I burn out, I feel overwhelmed, I don't  have peace, I have a break downs.

Then one day, God told me this:

I realized my issue of not being able to rest was also an issue of trust and control. Could I give it up? Could I let go to how tight I was holding? I wanted to because I was so tired. This verse spoke to me so clearly and became a source of comfort. I did need to rest, I couldn't keep going the way I was going and it's a constant reminder of that. I am so grateful that God calls us to rest and not only to rest but IN HIM. I picture God's arms looking like a hammock resting in the sunshine and when I fall down into it, I'm greeted with fluffy pillows and don't have to move a muscle once I am there because I am so comfortable.

It also reminds me that to trust in Him, I need to give up complete control. Living in this state of rest does mean letting Him run my life, letting Him make the hard decisions and going where He calls me. It will always be BETTER when He does that, He knows us better than we know ourselves, He loves us more than we can ever imagine, so why not rest in Him and let Him do the heavy lifting? He is able and wants to!

This verse also gives you encouragement to keep going. He will protect and carry your burden. I try to live as this verse says everyday, to go about my day getting things done but in a constant state of rest, rest in the arms of the One who loves me most.

How does this verse speak to you? Do you feel like resting in Christ is easy for you or hard? Have you ever put your trust and complete rest in Him ever before?

date night

Friday night Brian and I ventured to the east side to grab some pizza. For some reason it's hard to get up and out on a Friday after we've both had hard, busy weeks. I forced myself this time by getting all ready to go when I picked up Brian from work so I couldn't tempt myself with the couch.

We set out for Sellwood Pizza Kitchen only to find out it is not longer there.. awkward.
Luckily we found Laurelwood down the street and decided to check it out

my hot date that usually looks like this:

gluten free pizza. thank you Portland.

and of course our night has to end with blizzards & red box (we rented Young Adult  ... wouldn't recommend it)

how was your weekend?!

grays for days

Help.. is there a perfect gray? I've been searching and searching. I have this issue where in my head I know exactly what I want but I can't find it in the real world. The first thing we are going to do when we get keys in 2 weeks is to paint 6 rooms in the house... to make it pretty simple, I'm going to choose 1 light gray that can be used all over the house: 3 bedrooms, the office and the family room/kitchen.

We live in Oregon where it's gloomy & dark from December-May so we need a color that is still light and airy and won't make our seasonal depression worsen I'm wanting to stay away from taupes & beiges grays and work towards a cool tone.

TRULY, I just actually want light gray, a true light gray, but for some reason every gray I see is either brown gray or stone gray or blue gray or lavendar gray... Where are the regular grays people?!

I've been looking everywhere online but truly you can't quite get a feel for what the exact color will be not on a computer screen.

Here are a few I think I like..

Any advice? Has anyone used a light subtle gray that they just love and think I will too?
