"Give me the child. Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to the castle beyond the Goblin City to take back the child that you have stolen. For my will is as strong as yours, and my kingdom is as great... You have no power over me." - Sarah

For those of you who knew me growing up you know that my cousins and I are obsessed with this wonderful 80's movie that most people hate: The Labyrinth. To me this movie is incredible, fabulous characters, wonderful songs, great lines, lots of laughs. One central theme to the movie is this quote above. It plays in my head over and over again and has for years. In the end of the movie it's the moment when she realizes the Goblin King (david bowie thank you very much!!) has been trying to trick her this whole time into thinking getting her brother back was SO impossible, when really it wasn't and she was making it harder on herself because she believed the lies of the Goblin King. She gets caught up in a labyrinth in his castle and the moment she says this line again out loud, finishing the last few words: You have no power over me: the labyrinth disappears and her brother is there in front of her to save.

When I met the Lord this quote became even more important to me. It is our exact struggle with OUR Goblin King- Satan. For our world, our God IS as strong as Him, and even greater. Jesus has won the war, but we can't let Satan win our battles. Those stronghold he has on you, those lies he tells you over and over again... tell him THIS back into his face: YOU HAVE NO POWER OVER ME. He really would love us to think he does, but he doesn't, and never will.

halloween traditions

dinner:
chili + rice.

My mom always made a mean batch of Chili on Halloween night to warm us up before we adventured out into the cold for candy gathering.

in college I didn't have my mom but still wanted the chili, so I just made it from a can :)
and my wonderful roommates my sophomore year introduced me to a rice cooker and to adding rice into the mix with chili. It quickly became one of my favorite easy meals and my new easy Halloween meal until I learn to/have the time to make great Chili.

movies: so because I actually HATE scary movies with a passion, these are my Halloween favorites:

Hocus Pocus

Double Double Toil & Trouble

Teen Witch

treats:

pumpkin pie

candy corn

joys pumpkin bread

Friday Fun!!

Filling in Blanks on Friday along with Lauren! Create your own and then go to her page to link up!!

1. My absolute favorite movie of all time is ... oh goodness how do you even pick that!? I love so many movies. Cinderella, Sandlot, Hook, Pirates (1), Just Married, Because I said So... I don't even know how to do this. Honestly this question stresses me out because I feel like I'm going to forget movies and I also always feel like the movies I like are really "shallow" and I don't want people to view me as shallow!! haha. (okay I'm just rambling embarrassing things now...)

2. My favorite movie as a child was ...The Labyrinth, and Ace Ventura. and anything Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen. I played more Nintendo and watched TV more than movies I think. OOO: House Guest. FUNNIEST MOVIE OF MY LIFE. I love it so much. Please rent it this weekend if you've never seen it.

3. The best movie quote ever is from ... serious?!!? I have no idea. Way too many to even think of. Probably would say something from the Notebook.... or It Takes Two "that can't eat, can't sleep, over the fence reach for the stars world series kinda stuff"

4. My favorite actress Julia Roberts
My favorite actor Jude Law

5. The movie I could watch over and over is Just Married or Because I said So. These are my go-to movies to make me feel good. I love to laugh. (if FRIENDS counts as a movie.. which I know it doesn't... that's what I would say). Although Lindsay and I in college watched Last Kiss once a week for a few months... (we also watched FRIENDS straight through the entire series...)
6. My favorite movie genre is ...Romantic comedy/comedy. As I've gotten older I've wanted to watch less and less movies with depth? I'm not really sure why, I think sometimes I deal with so much "real hard life" with friends or YL and I don't really need to entertain myself with movies about heavy issues or dark things going on. When I watch a movie it's because I want to laugh or feel good or just have something to do.
7. A movie I'd like to watch this weekend is Better Off Dead. I'm pretty sure Netflix is going to call me on Monday and demand it back. We've had it for a few months and I've been waiting for my husband to agree to watch it with me... not sure if that's going to happen.

WHEW, I made it. that one was rough. Maybe it's because I can't focus on Fridays very well.

can't wait for the movie to come out.
I am not going to lie- FRIENDS has become my TV series on DVD of choice over the last year but S&TC will always hold a place in my heart. Who can resist?
