baby girl's room

This being my first baby, I wasn't quite sure what I needed to have around her room or where I should actually put it. After talking to friends, I organized everything before she was born the way that I thought best. Five months later I have for sure moved things around to make it work better for how we live in her space. I love her room and the way it turned out, it feels like us!

Some of my inspiration:

How I organized:

I didn't want to purchase a lot of storage tools so I made do with what I had. I hope to show that can still have a place for everything without having to buy things or organize it in a way you could never re-create while actually living in the space.

Are you about to be a new mom? Do you have any specific questions about how to organize all of the stuff

our dining room

Our house is finally just about put together. I wanted to share with you all the progress!

The dining room before:

House

We found a dining room table from Ikea. The dining room space is somewhat small but we like to entertain so we found a table that holds 6 people but can expand to hold 10. We went with the brown to make a cheap table look a little nicer. We also found the white chairs at Ikea and decided to go with them for a more modern look. The gray chairs we found at World Market to add the elegance back into the room.

My moms friend got this mirror from Ballard Designs but it came broken so she sent for a new one and gave me the broken one. I just put the broken part at the bottom to hide it. I decorated it with my grandparent's crystal decanters.

We still need to find drapes for around the window and eventually change the chandelier but it works for now!

organized: jewelry

New house, new room, new rules. I've got to say that it's been more challenging than I would have thought to move into a new home and not put everything back the way it was. I laid out all my decor on the ground and really forced myself to get rid of the things I didn't like anymore.

I really want this home to truly be us and part of that is making sure the things we own are us! In my old bedroom I had a black mirror on my dresser but felt like it was too dark against the furniture. I stole this white mirror from my vanity that I don't really have enough room for. I like the way it makes it look more feminine.

The second "new" decision I made was to display all of my jewelry in one place. I have a few cute trays and boxes that I've collected from my grandma or thrifted and displayed them all out! Nothing revolutionary but I like being able to see everything well and not have it look cluttered!

gray for days paint update

The Before: Dark Colors are not the best in Oregon where in the winter it can be cloudy and gray many many days in a row. I wanted to brighten up the family room for a light and airy feel

after seeking some inspiration on pinterest, we decided we really liked Benjamin Moore's Stonington Gray.

So we got some paint samples for $3.00 and some white posterboard. We bought Stonington Gray and another option. Once it was ready and dry we put them up on the walls to see what it looked like. I felt like it was too dark, it matched the hue of the green on the walls already and I didn't want it that dark.

Instead of going with a whole other color I decided to buy the paint color at a 50% hue instead of 100% . I thought this would be a good solution. Since the wall color was so dark to begin with we also bought a thick primer with a tint of Stonington Gray.

Beginning with the primer:

We have the most amazing family ever who helped us conquer the kitchen, family room, office and bedroom all in a week!
Brian also got some white paint and did 3 coats of white on the fire place.

It is a little more blue than I would have hoped for but overall I really love it, it feels so much more us already!
