portland design inspiration

As I've been anticipating moving into our new home, I'm constantly on pinterest & houzz looking and looking and looking for inspration and ideas for decor, furniture, colors and more. While on Houzz I stumbled across some work of Garrison Hullinger Interior Design, a Portland-based interior design firm. I love looking at Portland design because the color palate, home structure and taste are usually more in line with what I'm drawn to. Take a look at their website, houzz page and blog - what do you see that inspires you? Here are a few that are inspiring me:

1// beautiful Benjamin Moore gray walls from Alameda Ridge 2// beautiful reclaimed wood piece from Danish Luxe Revival  3// incredible old vanity with a modern feel for a mixed look done well from Camellia Court

portland feature: Camp Hollyhock

Happy Thursday friends! My best friend's sister & mom have a super cute boutique in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland! They started a few years back and opened their store last year! I interviewed Katie, the daughter in the mother-daughter duo. Learn more about their clothing line and boutique: Camp Hollyhock

What is Camp Hollyhock?

We are a mother-daughter duo behind Camp Hollyhock which is a small boutique where we hand make all of our garments from vintage material. We have something for all ages! Our clothes are very "girlie" and special. There are NO two items ever alike, so you will always leave with something that no one else will ever have!

What is the background? How did you get started?

Camp Hollyhock started with my mom (Marcee Melton) experimenting with a dress pattern, and some pretty fabric from the 1920's,30's,40's and so on and so forth! Her two oldest daughters were in high school at the time, and them and all of their girlfriends decided that they MUST have one of these delicate, original and adorable sun dresses. The next step was carrying our garments in boutiques across America! They were doing so well that we decided to open our very own shop. We also decided that we wanted to lower the prices of our garments, so that anyone could feel beautiful in a handmade dress made from precious vintage finds!

What do you love about running your own business?

The thing that we love most about running our own business, is that we call the shots. Because we are in charge of all the decision making, we are able to sell gorgeous handmade clothing at extremely affordable prices. We want to make sure that any woman can come into Camp Hollyhock, and leave feeling beautiful, confident, and not broke!!

What has been your greatest accomplishment thus far?

Our greatest accomplishment thus far, has been opening the shop. We had a dream, and we went for it! And that is something that we hope all women are able to do. (Plus, I recently met Tim Gunn, the most brilliant man in the fashion industry, and he LOVED the Hollyhock outfit that I had on! It was pretty fantastic!)

Where do you see your shop in 5 years?

In five years, we hope to have another location, and possibly more if we feel prepared! To be established and a recognizable name would make everything worth it!

What does "Camp Hollyhock" mean?

Absolutely nothing!...We get that question quite often, and the answer every time is "We just liked it!"...Another perk of having your own business! Marcee has always loved that name, so what better was to put it to use?!

Feature: Miss Joy Skincare + a portland giveaway

If you all follow me on twitter you've heard me rave about my skin care gal. She has helped me SO much start to get a handle on my least favorite thing (my skin...)

I grabbed bloggers Anna & Hannah  to come down to her salon with me for some fun

{lookin beautiful after their organic airbrush tans}

Would like for you guys to meet Jesslin Richman
of Miss Joy Skincare

Q & A:

What made you interested in skin care?
I grew up with a horrible complexion And I was always was really self conscious of my skin. Since then I always wanted to learn how to fix my own skin and help others that were also uncomfortable In their own skin.

Tell us a little bit about your business/services?

I started this business on wanting the foundation to be "affordable personal skincare." (this is what makes me different too) Meaning: I am the only one treating my clients. Everytime you come in you don't see a new therapist. I learn your skin and what works for you. There is not a miracle solution to any skin problem. Everyones skin is unique and I treat everyone differently.

What makes you different?

I am also different from other skin therapists because you don't have to try and fit in my Schedule.. You fit Miss Joy into your Schedule.

I work by appointment only, meaning you can schedule your appointment the day you need it done or months in advance. I take appointments anytime from 9am-9pm. 7 days a week.  I want to make sure I am always available for you!

What is your specialty/ What special services to you have ?

My specialty would have to be my healthy paraben free airbrush tanning. It's a customized solution for everyone's skin tone. Non orange guaranteed! It's important for the solution to be paraben free because when you use a product with parabens in it, it can mimic estrogen an can lead to breast cancer. The solution is one of a kind and it's cheaper than any place in Oregon! Only $20 per tan or $60 a month!
You don't need to put on any lotions on your hands or feet! Just come in and give me 15 mintues of your time and you will leave with a great glow or tan, whatever you want!

What is your favorite skin care product?

Personally my favorite skincare product is Retinol. It's a derivative of vitamin A. When put on your skin it becomes an exfoliate and increases collagen production. Which in return reduces blemishes and wrinkles!  What else could you want right?

What is your best skin advice?

1st: If you don't like to wash your face or it's hard for you to wash your face twice a day, wash your skin at night. Your skin replenishes most at night and it can't do that if you don't clean off your makeup and clear your pores. Every day you sleep with makeup on your pores it ages you on an average of 20 days per night. That ads up! Yikes.

2nd: Wear sunscreen and don't go in tanning beds!
Not only does your chances increase with skin cancer, you are aging yourself at a rapid pace.
